Tarifa is all about Kitesurfing
Eat, sleep, drink, live kitesurfing on every single day 24/7. Bienvenido a Tarifa.
As you drive up the last hill before arriving into Tarifa and you see the panoramic view of the beach ahead, it never ceases to lift my mood and make me feel lucky that we can call Tarifa our home. Tarifa has grown from a hippy surf village to a vibrant cosmopolitan kite town with its endless tapas bars and restaurants. It serves the best Tuna tapas you can eat and if you are here in June you need to join the Ruta del Atun. Even though Tarifa has grown and developed over the years at its heart it is still a small surf town and this ethos still runs through.
Weather When is the best time to travel to Tarifa?
For kiting the season runs from mid March through to mid November as this is when the wind and the weather is more consistent. The high season for wind is from June through to the end of September. You get two winds in Tarifa: Poniente, wind from the sea and Levante, blowing from the land, so it is normally one or the other!

Explora Watersports is lucky to have their own kite centre in the grounds of Vento El Tito which is a great restaurant and bar just outside of Tarifa by the beach, so you have the perfect spot to relax and refresh after a kite session.
Reviews
- JoeKnapton, November 4, 2019 Explora are a truly professional setup, providing the fastest and safest way to get into this sport. Their enthusiasm for kitesurfing is infectious, making you want to keep going with it after the lessons have stopped. They also know the stretch of coastline around Tarifa inside out, ensuring that you're in the right place at the right time. I had a kite lesson with someone else before going with Explora, and it really put me off. It felt dangerous and confusing. Then I booked in with Explora, and the difference was huge - after just 2 private lessons with I was up on the board and kiting! I'm now looking at buying some kit and getting into it here in the UK. Thanks Explora! show more
